IMSA Sports Car Race to Expand to Six Hours in 2024 at IMS

By Indianapolis Motor Speedway

The TireRack.com Battle on the Bricks will grow into a six-hour IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship event in 2024.

IMSA released its 2024 schedule Friday, Aug. 4, with round 10 of the 11-round series Sept. 20-22 on the 14-turn, 2.439-mile road course at IMS. The IMS round also will be the fourth leg of the five-leg Michelin Endurance Cup of races of six hours or longer, joining the Rolex 24 At Daytona (Jan. 27-28), the 12 Hours of Sebring (March 16), the Six Hours of Watkins Glen (June 30) and Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta (Oct. 12).

All four WeatherTech SportsCar Championship classes in 2024 will race at IMS during the second annual TireRack.com Battle on the Bricks – Grand Touring Prototype (GTP), Le Mans Prototype 2 (LMP2), GT Daytona Pro (GTD Pro) and GT Daytona (GTD). The Michelin Pilot Challenge for production-based cars also will return to IMS in 2024 for a two-hour race.

“A six-hour event in 2024 is the evolution of the return of exciting IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship racing to IMS that we all wanted to happen,” IMS President J. Douglas Boles said. “We can’t wait for the inaugural TireRack.com Battle on the Bricks this Sept. 15-17, which will be a great new major event for our fans at the Racing Capital of the World. And next year, the additional strategies and action of endurance racing will add even more excitement. Sports car racing has a bright present and future at IMS.”

This year’s TireRack.com Battle on the Bricks on Sept. 15-17 will be the first IMSA race at IMS since 2014. The two-hour, 40-minute IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race will take place Sunday, Sept. 17, with racing also in the Michelin Pilot Challenge.
