INDIANAPOLIS – In the second of a back-to-back series, Indiana beat Capital City 110-106 in overtime on a game winning basket from Isaiah Wong, who finished with 14 points. Elfrid Payton registered his second straight triple double with 10 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Payton ties Naz Mitrou-Long with the most triple doubles in Mad Ants history with three. He is the first Mad Ant to register three in one season or back-to-back triple doubles. FIRST QUARTER With 8:13 left in the first quarter, Indiana gained the first two possession lead of the game, going up 10-5 on an Elfrid Payton alley oop to a Kendall Brown lay in. Indiana continued to be strong defensively and pushing the pace in transition including an Isaiah Wong open layup to go up 16-12. After one, Indiana led 24-18. SECOND QUARTER Indiana led by seven in the second before a Jake Stephens basket cut the Go-Go deficit to 28-25 with 9:30 to play. With 8:20 to play in the second, Payton ripped the ball away leading to a dunk from Wong to put Indiana up 34-27. With 7:33 on the clock, a Davion Mintz three cut it down to 34-32 with Capital City still trailing. The Go-Go took the lead at 37-36 with 5:25 to play in the half as Jules Bernard completed an and-one play. At the half, Capital City held a 50-45 lead. THIRD QUARTER With 7:28 on the clock in the third, a Jules Bernard putback pushed Capital City up 60-53. The teams exchanged baskets most of the second half of the third, with 3:28 to play when the Mad Ants ended a wild scramble for the ball with a Craig Sword basket to tie the game at 65. With 2:36 to play, Sword’s free throws pushed Indiana back ahead 67-65. After three however, Capital City had regained the lead at 74-70. FOURTH QUARTER Taylor Funk opened the fourth quarter with a three that pushed the Capital City lead to 77-70. With 8:41 to play, Jarace Walker cut the Mad Ants deficit to 81-80, but Funk answered back with another three for Capital City. Kyle Mangas’ three with 7:23 to play cut the score down again, now to 86-83 in the Go-Go’s favor but Capital City again responded with a Devon Dotson basket. With 3:27 to play, Brown’s corner three for Indiana tied the game at 94. With 1:20 to play, a Mangas three pointer pushed Indiana ahead 101-100. With 55 seconds left, Jared Butler’s shot clock beating three gave the Go-Go the lead right back at 103-101. Jordan Bell put it back with 35.8 seconds left to tie the game at 103. Indiana forced a turnover with 13.3 seconds left but couldn’t get off a closing shot, forcing overtime. OVERTIME In overtime in the NBA G League, the winning team is the first to score seven points. Capital City won the tipoff but Indiana struck first when Payton found Mangas for a three pointer and a foul; Mangas hit the free throw to go up 107-103. The assist gave Payton his second straight triple double. Mintz answered back with a three at the shot clock buzzer to make it 107-106. To close the game, Wong scored and added a free throw. Behind Payton and Wong, Brown added 24 and Mangas scored 21. Jordan Bell added 14 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and three blocks.
