INDIANAPOLIS – The NBA G League announced on Wednesday that Indiana Mad Ants’ Tom Hankins was named the league’s Coach of the Month for December 2023.
Hankins compiled a 13-1 record in the month of December, while leading the Mad Ants to the #1 overall seed in the Showcase Cup and an appearance in the Showcase Cup Finals in Orlando, Florida. Hankins’ team was the first team in the league to clinch a spot in the Showcase Cup, four days before any other team locked in to the field of eight.
Following the Showcase Cup portion of the schedule, Hankins led the Mad Ants to a 3-0 start to close out December and open the regular season, where records reset from the Showcase portion of the schedule.
The start to the season for Hankins and the Mad Ants was the best ever in league history through 20 games, by improving to 18-2 overall with December 31’s win over the Birmingham Squadron. Included in that run was a 14 game winning streak between November and December, the longest in franchise history and tied for the fourth longest in league history.
Hankins becomes the second Mad Ants head coach to ever receive the honor. The other was Steve Gansey in November 2016. In his fourth season leading the Mad Ants, Hankins – as of this release – has won 80 games as the Mad Ants head coach, making him second all-time in wins at the helm of the franchise.
