INDIANAPOLIS – Indy Eleven has announced that forward Douglas Martinez will be the 12th player returning for the Boys in Blue for the 2024 USL Championship season who suited up for the squad in 2023. Per club policy, terms of the deal will not be disclosed, and status is pending league and federation approval.
Last season, Martinez saw action in 31 games, making 23 starts, and was third on the team with four goals, including a pair of match winners, off 32 shots. The Honduran also tallied three assists, ranking third for the club.
The 2024 season will be the sixth of USL action for Martinez, who has served stints with Sacramento Republic (2022), San Diego Loyal (2021), Real Monarchs (2019 & 2021) and Red Bulls II (2017). He helped Real Monarchs to a 3-1 victory over Louisville City FC in the 2019 USL Championship Final, scoring 17 goals and registering seven assists that season. Martinez has seen action in 121 USL matches since 2017, tallying 31 goals and adding 15 assists.
Martinez spent time with MLS-side Real Salt Lake from 2019-21, making nine starts in 18 appearances in 2020 and scoring a pair of goals. Across 25 total matches over three seasons, Martinez made 10 starts and totaled 951 minutes played.
Internationally, Martinez has been called up by Honduras for the 2017 CONCACAF U-20 Championship in which they finished second. He also helped the side qualify for the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea, scoring one goal in six appearances. In 2019, Martinez scored two goals to help Honduras win silver at the Pan American Games. He followed the performance up with a National Team selection that included three appearances in the CONCACAF Nations League. His first senior-level goal came in his debut, a 2-0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago. He also represented Honduras at the 2020 Olympic Games. Most recently, Martinez started for Honduras in a January 17 friendly versus Iceland and was called up the team’s roster for CONCACAF Nation’s League Quarterfinal matches in November.
