The Indianapolis Colts have been better than expected to start the season, and making the playoffs now seems like a real possibility for the promising team.

Entering the 2023 NFL season, the majority of people thought the Indianapolis Colts would be monitoring draft standings throughout the year. Coming off a 4-12-1 season, where a lot of bad football was played, the Colts started the 2023 season with a rookie head coach and a rookie quarterback, so it’s understandable why people thought the Colts would be bad.
However, after five weeks, Indy is 3-2 and will have the chance to take control of the AFC South in Week 6. Now, fans are preparing to say goodbye to drafting Marvin Harrison Jr., and hello to the postseason. Obviously, it’s still very early in the season, and the Colts are facing several challenges like an underwhelming secondary and an injured starting quarterback. Still, the playoffs seems to be a real possibility at this point in the season, so let’s take a look at the AFC Playoff picture.
AFC Playoff picture entering Week 6
If the playoffs started today, the Colts would be the first AFC wildcard team, holding the No. 5 seed. The team right in front of Indy with the No. 4 seed is the Jacksonville Jaguars. If Indianapolis wins against Jacksonville on Sunday, they’d take the division lead and would be the automatic qualifier for the AFC South, forcing the Jaguars to be a wildcard team.

2. Miami Dolphins
3. Pittsburgh Steelers
4. Jacksonville Jaguars
5. Indianapolis Colts
6. Baltimore Ravens
7. Buffalo Bills
If this was the actual seeding for the postseason, the Colts would be playing the Jaguars in a wildcard game. However, the season isn’t ending today, as there is a ton of more football to be played. Indy will need to continue exceeding expectations to hold on to a playoff spot, because in the loaded AFC, teams like the Cleveland Browns, the Los Angeles Chargers, and Cincinnati Bengals will definitely be making a push.
