Overview: Kelsey Mitchell compiled one of the most productive regular seasons for an Indiana Fever player in franchise history. Mitchell was named a WNBA All-Star for the first time in her career in 2023 and also participated in the STARRY 3-Point Contest in Las Vegas. The sixth-year guard averaged 18.2 points, 1.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 33.7 minutes played and started all 40 games played this season. Mitchell’s 728 points, including 37 games scoring at least 10 points, 245 field goals made and 102 3-point field goals made were the most by a Fever player in a regular season in franchise history. In 2023, Mitchell ascended to second all-time in franchise history in scoring and finished the year with 3,156 points. She still remains second in franchise history in made 3-point field goals behind only Tamika Catchings in both categories. Mitchell ended 2023 ranked 21st all-time in career made 3-point field goals with 449 and also 76th all-time in career scoring across the WNBA. She was also named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the second time in her career on August 29. On June 5, Mitchell was awarded the Dawn Staley Community Leadership Award for her positive impact and dedication in the community. The award was created to recognize a WNBA player who best exemplifies the characteristics of a leader in the community where they work or live.
Notable Performances:
June 15: In a road win at the Chicago Sky, Mitchell scored 13 of her 15 points in the second half and made a midrange jumper to put the Fever ahead by two with 1.1 seconds on the clock.
July 2: Against the Sky at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Mitchell finished with 26 points, dished out a season-high eight assists and pulled down four rebounds. Mitchell added 18 of her 26 points in the first half on 8-of-10 shooting alone.
August 20: Mitchell surpassed 3,000 career points in a win at the Phoenix Mercury and ended the night with 28 points. Mitchell became the second fastest player in league history to record 3,000 points while also recording 400 made 3-pointers and 500 assists.
August 24: In a home win against the Seattle Storm, Mitchell scored a season-high 36 points on 10-of-20 shooting from the floor and went 4-of-9 from 3-point range to record the second most points scored in a regular season game in franchise history.
September 3: In an overtime win against the Dallas Wings, Mitchell and NaLyssa Smith became the first pair of Fever teammates to each score at least 30 points in the same game. Mitchell netted 30 points in the win on 10-of-20 shooting from the floor and went 7-of-11 from 3-point range. It was also Mitchell’s fifth game scoring at least 30 points in her career.
