The Colts have to Hope the Chip on Adonai Mitchell’s Shoulder Continues to Drive Him

The rookie receiver is ready to go and will not readily forget.

How can you not like what you have seen so far from Adonai Mitchell? The man is pissed off. (His words, not mine.) The best part is, he is using it for fuel to propel his NFL career. The Indianapolis Colts have to hope that he continues to use the draft night fall as motivation for years to come. So far, so good.

Mitchell chose the number 10 to wear on his back, and he made sure everyone knew why. It wasn’t a random number but was instead an ode to the number of receivers taken before him in the draft. We hear quite frequently how players are pushed to work harder because they want to ensure the teams that passed them over are made fully aware of their error. Although many remember the names of those players, Mitchell claims to have already forgotten. According to him, they have neither names nor faces. That is a strong statement. I am sure he can remember a few, (or perhaps all) but he isn’t going to get caught up in giving them any more credit than he already feels they have received.

There is the talk, and then there is the walk. Players can say what they want all day long, but if they don’t back it up on the field, it means nothing. Mitchell certainly has a long way to go, but he is making sure he is doing all he can to make good on his promise to Chris Ballard to make him look like a genius. During rookie minicamp, Mitchell is squeezing everything he can out of that orange by making the most of his time.

Now, to be fair, most of us have started a new job and had a rush of excitement or at least productivity. That normally fades as the day-to-day grind takes over. On the other hand, the vast majority aren’t working in the NFL as a player. There is something to be said about someone who makes it to this level. Of course, it takes gobs of talent, but a drive also has to be present. So many that succeed eat and breathe football. Mitchell looks like one of those people.

Adonai Mitchell has a long way before he makes it to Canton. He has a long way to go to even make a meaningful impact on a team in the NFL. Let’s not put the cart before the horse. While there is plenty of work to be done, you have to love the fight, spirit, tenacity, and persistence. If he can bottle and channel it effectively, that is going to be one useful chip.
