INDIANAPOLIS – The NBA G League has named Indiana Mad Ants rookie two-way player Oscar Tshiebwe as the KIA Rookie of the Year for the 2023-2024 season.
Tshiebwe opened his rookie year with 33 points and 22 rebounds on November 11 at Sioux Falls, the first of 27 double doubles during the full season that includes Showcase Cup and Regular Season games.
During his rookie year, Tshiebwe set new single season Mad Ant franchise records for total rebounds (530), offensive rebounds (200) and defensive rebounds (330). On November 22, Tshiebwe broke the Indiana Mad Ants’ single game rebounding record with 28 against Motor City; that same night he broke the single game defensive rebounding record for the franchise with 20.
He finished the season as the NBA G League rebounding champion and set a new league single season rebounding per game record at 16.2.
Through his Mad Ants franchise history single season second best 27 double doubles, Tshiebwe posted 10 games of 18 or more rebounds and eight games with 20 or more, both franchise records.
In addition to his rebounding work, Tshiebwe finished with the fourth best single season field goal in franchise history at .574 (218-380). He had seven games of at least 20 points and 20 rebounds out of the 13 times that has occurred in Mad Ants history.
Tshiebwe became the second Mad Ant to ever participate in NBA All-Star activities as he was part of the Rising Stars game in Indianapolis. During the same weekend he appeared in the NBA G League Up Next games and hit the winning free throw of the championship game for Team EYL.
Tshiebwe joins Tony Mitchell (2012-2013) as Mad Ants to earn league Rookie of the Year honors.
