Indy Fuel Pit Stop: Playoffs Week 2

INDY FUEL TRAIL WHEELING 3-1 IN ROUND 1 CENTRAL DIVISION SEMIFINALS

INDY FUEL OVERALL REGULAR SEASON RECORD 39-25-6-2 

ROUND 1, GAME 1 – FRIDAY, APRIL 19 VS. WHEELING – 5-2 W

The Fuel hosted the Wheeling Nailers for the first game of the playoffs on Friday night and after a breakout second period, the Fuel defeated the Nailers 5-2 in their first home playoff win in franchise history. 

ROUND 1, GAME 2 – SATURDAY, APRIL 20 VS. WHEELING – 7-1 L

The Fuel fell 7-1 to the Nailers in the second game of the first round of the playoffs. They head to Wheeling now for three games, as the series is tied 1-1 after a Fuel win on Friday. 

ROUND 1, GAME 3 – MONDAY, APRIL 22 VS. WHEELING – 3-2 OTL

The Fuel headed to Wheeling for games three through five of the first round of the playoffs against the Nailers. Starting Monday night, they hoped to take a 2-1 series lead. Despite a late goal by Andrew Perrott and forcing overtime, the Fuel fell 3-2 to the Nailers.

ROUND 1, GAME 4 – TUESDAY, APRIL 23 VS. WHEELING – 3-0 L

The Fuel continued the middle stretch of round 1 on the road in Wheeling for game 4. This game was all Wheeling as they shut out the Fuel 3-0.

OIL DROPS

  • Kyle Maksimovich is the only rookie in the playoffs with three goals. He leads the league in rookie scoring in the playoffs.
  • He is also tied for third overall among ECHL players in the playoffs with three goals and two assists.
  • Goaltender Mitchell Weeks is ranked 13th among goalies in the playoffs, with a save percentage of .892 and 2.41 goals against average.
  • Santino Centorame and Ross MacDougall are on the defenseman playoff leaderboard. Both players have two assists in four games.

TEAM NOTES

  • The Fuel have the most penalty minutes in the playoffs so far with 98 minutes, Chris Cameron (14 PIM) and Matt Cairns (17 PIM) are a part of the top five most PIM in the playoffs for an individual player.
  • Special teams have presented some difficulty for the Fuel in the playoffs. Their penalty kill percentage is 73.7%. They score on the power play just 14.3% of the time during the playoffs.
  • Much like the regular season, the second period is the most effective for the Fuel. They have 44 shots on goal during the second period and four goals as well.
