Blue Coats’ Hot Shooting Afternoon Pushes By Mad Ants

INDIANAPOLIS – Delaware used a hot shooting game from long range to top Indiana 141-96 on Tuesday afternoon. Delaware shot 55.6 percent from three-point range (20-36) compared to Indiana’s 11.1 percent.

FIRST QUARTER

A pair of quick Delaware turnovers led to back-to-back fast break baskets for the Mad Ants to start off 4-0. With 8:40 left in the first quarter, Darius Bazley ended a 9-0 run for Indiana with a basket to get the Blue Coats on the board. With 3:56 to play, a Jeff Dowtin three cut the deficit to 18-17 for the Blue Coats, who then hit a midrange shot to give Delaware a 19-18 lead. After one, Delaware held a 30-27 lead.

SECOND QUARTER

Jared Brownridge opened the second half with a three pointer to extend the Blue Coats lead to 33-27, the fourth Delaware three pointer of the game while Indiana was still 0-of-4 from deep. With 10:12 to play in the second, a Bazley three pointer extended Delaware’s lead to 10 at 39-29. With 3:30 to go, a Patrick McCaw fast break basket extended Delaware’s lead to a then game high 51-36. The Mad Ants cut their deficit down to 10, but the half, the Blue Coats led Indiana 59-44.

THIRD QUARTER

Indiana opened the second half on a 4-0 run, but it was quickly erased by five straight points from the Blue Coats. With 8:39 left in the third, Dowtin’s basket pushed the Blue Coats up 74-55. Delaware pushed the lead over 20 but back-to-back Mangas baskets helped the Mad Ants out before Aminu Mohammed’s dunk at the 5:56 mark that made it 82-62 for the Blue Coats. After three, Delaware led 102-70 after a late Patrick McCaw three.

FOURTH QUARTER

Bazley’s three with 10:40 left in the game extended the lead to 107-70 for the Blue Coats. Indiana added a pair of baskets late in the fourth by McCaw’s three with 5:15 left stalled the Mad Ants’ attempt to gain traction.

Indiana was paced by Kendall Brown’s 16 points and 12 points each from Kyle Mangas and Craig Sword.

The Blue Coats were led by Darius Bazley’s 31 points and 11 rebounds, 21 from Melvin Frazier Jr. and 20 out of Patrick McCaw.

The Mad Ants return to action Wednesday for a 6 p.m. tipoff against the Cleveland Charge.
