Indy Eleven Signs DF Danny Barbir from Oakland

INDIANAPOLIS – Indy Eleven has today announced the signing of Danny Barbir who comes to the Circle City after spending two seasons at the USL Championship’s Oakland Roots SC. Barbir, a center back from Atlanta, also spent time with Sporting Kansas City II and Whitecaps FC 2, as well as clubs in Romania and Germany. Per club policy, terms of the deal will not be disclosed, and status is pending league and federation approval.

The 6-4, 175-pound defender started all 34 matches for Oakland in 2023, scoring two goals and adding five assists. During the 2022 season, he saw action in 29 games, starting 26, helping Oakland to an appearance in the Western Conference Semifinals. In two seasons at Sporting Kansas City (2020-21), Barbir appeared in 39 matches and scored four goals. He opened his U.S. professional career in Vancouver during the 2017 USL Championship season.

In 2018, Barbir signed with Astra Giurgiu out of Romania’s Second Division and was loaned out to German club Sandhausen II where he played in 11 matches. His first professional contract came in 2015 with English club West Bromwich Albion and he also played three matches on trial for Stoke City’s U23 team.

Barbir has also spent time with the U15, U17 and U19 US Youth National Teams, appearing in the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile.
