Asante Named to USL Championship Team of the Week

Midfielder scored match winner at FC Tulsa

TAMPA/INDIANAPOLIS – An 82nd-minute match winner in Indy Eleven’s victory over FC Tulsa helped earn Solomon Asante USL Championship Team of the Week honors, league officials announced Tuesday.

Asante’s goal was his second of the season to go along with a team-leading six assists. The midfielder also registered three shots and four chances created in the match and added eight final third entries, including a run that led to Indy’s first goal of the match. Defensively, Asante won two of three tackles and five of seven duels and made 11 recoveries.

Among USL Championship leaders, Asante ranks tied for 12th with his 2023 assist total and now has a combined 105 goals and assists (52/53) in USLC regular-season action for his career, ranking him fourth. His career assist total has him sitting second on the league’s all-time list.

Asante was previously named to the team of the week following week 23 and was a bench selection following week seven. He was also a nominee for USL Player of the Month for the month of August.

With a 3-0 win over Detroit City FC on Sept. 30, Indy Eleven clinched its first USL Championship playoff berth since 2019 and third overall since the team joined the league ahead of the 2018 season. The Boys in Blue close out the regular season at San Antonio on Saturday. Kick is slated for 8:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. CT and will air locally on WNDY and on ESPN+.
