Interview With Circle City Roller Derby Star – Lego Blox

What attracts you to the sport of Roller Derby?

I first joined roller derby in 2012 — and I loved the theatrical nature of it! I used to have quite the collection of fun leggings and tights to pair with crazy shorts. But I also love that I have really developed into an athlete – and that the sport now reflects that athleticism. Roller derby makes me brave!

Why did you choose the name Lego Blox?

I wanted something fun and playful – and my wife came up with the name. Recently I heard a podcast where someone was talking about how legos are a great symbol of self-development… you have this great picture of what you want to build on the box – but the only way to do it is slowly brick-by-brick. This definitely captures my approach to derby and to life in general. I may be slow – but I stick to it and amazing things can happen.

What’s your favorite part of Roller Derby?

The practices — I love learning new things and working with other people to get better at something.

Why Circle City Roller Derby?

CCRD is a place that welcomes everyone! They are amazing.

Name one fun fact about yourself!

I also love scuba diving! (If I did not become a college professor – I was going to move to a tropical island and become a dive instructor.)
