BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — In news that is not shocking to anyone that has watched her play this year, Grace Berger has been named to the Associated Press WNBA All-Rookie team.
The former Indiana women’s basketball player under coach Teri Moren was selected by the Indiana Fever with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft. Berger is joined on the AP’s All-Rookie first team by teammate Aliyah Boston, Dorka Juhasz and Diamond Miller of the Minnesota Lynx, and Jordan Horston of the Seattle Storm.
In 36 games played for the Fever, Berger averaged just 4.2 points per game, but the former Hoosier was hyper efficient in her play. She finished the 2023 season having shot 16-for-34 from the three-point line, good for a 47.1% mark from deep.
Berger’s 2023 campaign was the best three-point shooting season from a rookie in the WNBA that played in at least 30 games since Kaleah Copper shot 46.7% from three for the Chicago Sky in 2016.
Additionally, Berger found a role in the Fever’s rotation as the perfect compliment to 2023’s No. 1 overall pick in Boston. Having played with Mackenzie Holmes for so many years, Berger has emerged as one of the league’s best post entry passers, which pairs perfectly with Boston’s interior dominance.
The IU-made rookie hardly saw the court during the first half of the 2023 season, but broke into the lineup for good following a 15-point performance against the New York Liberty.
As is the case for a good number of WNBA players, Berger will now be headed overseas to continue playing basketball during the offseason. The former Indiana Hoosier will be hooping it up in Spain in 2023-24, as she signed a deal with Gernika KESB in June.
