Overview: Erica Wheeler returned to Indiana this season to usher in a new era of Indiana Fever basketball as a veteran leader. In her eighth season in the WNBA and fifth season with the Fever, Wheeler averaged 9.9 points, 5.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 26.8 minutes per contest while starting all 40 games this season. Wheeler led the Fever in assists, finished eighth across the WNBA in assists per game and surpassed 1,000 career assists in 2023. Wheeler enters 2024 with 1,043 career assists for 34th all-time in WNBA history. In 2023, Wheeler also became the first player in franchise history to record at least 200 assists in a regular season. In the Fever all-time rankings, Wheeler is sixth in points scored (1,688), third in assists (746), seventh in steals (182) and 10th in regular season games played (176).
Notable Performances:
June 6: Wheeler set a franchise record for most assists in a regular season game with 12 assists to go along with 12 points. It was the first of three double-doubles in 2023 for Wheeler.
August 10: The second double-double came in a win against the Minnesota Lynx as Wheeler finished with 17 points and 10 assists.
August 13:Against the New York Liberty, Wheeler scored a season-high 21 points. It was the second 20-point scoring outing for Wheeler in 2023.
September 1: The final double-double of the season for Wheeler was 12 points and 10 assists at home against the Dallas Wings. Wheeler joined Aliyah Boston and NaLyssa Smith for the first time in franchise history that three Fever players recorded double-doubles in the same game.
