Indianapolis 500 veteran Katherine Legge will drive in the Pennzoil 150 at the Brickyard presented by Advance Auto Parts NASCAR Xfinity Series race Saturday, Aug. 12 on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course during Brickyard Weekend.
Legge will compete in the No. 07 Chevrolet fielded by SS Green Light Racing on the 14-turn, 2.439-mile road course at IMS, the highlight of a four-race program this season in the Xfinity Series.
She will be one of the few drivers to compete in the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge, on Brickyard Weekend and in the TireRack.com Battle on the Bricks IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship event Sept. 15-17 this season at IMS.
“The Indy 500 made me realize that life and racing careers are too short not to go for it,” Legge said. “My interest and passion are to continue to break new ground in motorsports. I’ve been proactive over the last year in thinking about what I want to do in my career and how I can accomplish those things.”
British driver Legge has made three starts in “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing,” with a career-best finish of 22nd as a rookie in 2012. She made her first start since 2013 last May with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, setting records for female drivers in qualifying.
Legge turned the fastest single qualifying lap and four-lap qualifying average by a female driver in the 107-year history of the Indianapolis 500. Her four-lap average of 231.070 mph broke the record of 229.439 set in 2002.
NASCAR is one of the many series Legge has raced in during her diverse motorsports career. She competes full time in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in the No. 66 Gradient Racing Acura NSX GT3 Evo22. She also brought NSX its first ever win worldwide in Detroit in 2017.
Legge also has raced in Champ Car, the NASCAR Xfinity Series, the DTM touring car series in Europe and Toyota Atlantic, among other series. She also tested a Formula One car in 2005.
The Pennzoil 150 at the Brickyard presented by Advance Auto Parts is one of four races on the IMS road course during one of the most unique weekends in global motorsports, as it’s the only event in which the NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series and NTT INDYCAR SERIES share the same track on the same weekend.
Highlights of the schedule Saturday, Aug. 12 include the Pennzoil 150 at the Brickyard presented by Advance Auto Parts and the Gallagher Grand Prix for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. The Verizon 200 at the Brickyard for the NASCAR Cup Series takes center stage Sunday, Aug. 13. The future stars of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES also will race in the INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix on Friday, Aug. 11.
